WBCS 2023 Vacancies

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the official notification for WBCS 2023 had not yet been released, and the details of the vacancies were not available. However, based on the previous year’s vacancies, it can be expected that the total number of vacancies for the WBCS 2023 exam will be announced in the notification.

The number of vacancies varies every year and depends on the requirement of various departments of the West Bengal government. The vacancies are announced based on the number of posts available in Group A, B, C, and D services.

Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website of WBPSC (https://wbpsc.gov.in/) for any updates or changes regarding the vacancies and other important details of the WBCS 2023 exam.

WBCS Exam 2023 Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the WBCS 2023 exam are as follows:

  1. Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from other countries.
  2. Age Limit: The candidate must be between 21 and 36 years of age as of January 1, 2023. However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to certain categories, such as SC/ST/OBC and Ex-servicemen.
  3. Educational Qualification: The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates who are in their final year of graduation or waiting for their results are also eligible to apply, but they need to submit proof of passing the degree examination before the Personality Test.
  4. Language: The candidate must be able to read, write, and speak in Bengali/Nepali. However, this requirement does not apply to candidates who are permanent residents of hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.

It is important to note that candidates should carefully check the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam. Also, they need to submit all the required documents and certificates in support of their eligibility at the time of the exam. Any candidate found ineligible at any stage of the selection process will be disqualified.

  2. Main Examination: The main exam is a written examination that consists of six compulsory papers and one optional paper.   • For SC/ST candidates: The upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years.
  • For OBC candidates: The upper age limit is relaxable up to 3 years.

WBCS 2023 Exam Pattern

The WBCS 2023 exam pattern will consist of two parts: the Preliminary Exam and the Main Exam.

Preliminary Exam: The Preliminary Exam will be an objective-type exam consisting of 200 multiple choice questions carrying 1 mark each. The duration of the exam will be 2 hours and it will be conducted online. The questions will be based on General Studies including Science, Humanities, and Current Events. The Preliminary Exam is a screening test and the marks obtained in this exam will not be counted for final selection.

Main Exam: The Main Exam will consist of six papers. All the papers, except the language paper, will be of conventional essay type. The six papers will be as follows:

  1. Paper I – Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali: This paper will be of 200 marks.
  2. Paper II – English: This paper will be of 200 marks.
  3. Paper III – General Studies-I: This paper will be of 200 marks.
  4. Paper IV – General Studies-II: This paper will be of 200 marks.
  5. Paper V – Optional Subject-I: This paper will be of 200 marks.
  6. Paper VI – Optional Subject-II: This paper will be of 200 marks.

Candidates will have to select two optional subjects from a list of subjects provided by the commission.

Interview: Candidates who qualify the Main Exam will be called for an interview. The interview will carry 200 marks.

  3. Total Marks: The exam will be of 200 marks.

  8. Qualifying Marks: Candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks in the Preliminary Exam to be eligible for the Main Exam.
